Please consider joining us Saturday April 8, 2017 in Palo Alto for A Common Call. Registration and more information can be found here.
We’ll hear from Christian professors who have honored Christ in their teaching, research, and service, explore with other Christian professors our common call to the university and the world, network with colleagues from other universities, and share ideas for effective ministry.
Here are a few thoughts from some Cal Poly faculty members that attended the A Common Call conference here in San Luis Obispo last Spring:
“Just like our students glean so much from us as faculty, I learned from and was so encouraged by the mature Christian faculty who shared their experiences and ideas at the A Common Call conference. It was a rich experience for me.” David Janzen – Computer Science
“The conference was outstanding; it was encouraging to hear how other earnest followers of Jesus are translating his Commission into their teaching and advising. I got fresh ideas and had the opportunity to pass along what I’ve learned to others as well.” Mike Winn – Communication Studies
“A Common Call provided an excellent opportunity for faculty to get together and share our experiences with living for Christ on secular campuses. I gained some valuable insights on how to serve others and let God do His work through me. ” Rich Savage – Biomedical Engineering
“How do we faithfully live out our faith within the university environment? We work in places where diversity and inquiry are valued and yet some of us tread carefully. We want to frame our witness appropriately, faithfully honoring our employment while also looking for the places where God would have us love in extraordinary ways for the Gospel’s sake. A Common Call is a wonderful way to connect with others who share this calling. I left encouraged and inspired about my role as a Christian called to the secular university classroom.” Cal Stevens – Management, HR & Information Systems
“The conference was very encouraging and inspiring as it gave me the opportunity to interact with people who love Jesus and want to serve him as the focus of their work as professors. The conference reminded me that in my job, I am called to be a Christian above anything else and though I will fail at this, God’s grace is exactly what is needed to use my inadequacies for His purposes at Cal Poly and in my life.” Chip Appel – NRES
We’re excited about the upcoming April 8th Bay Area conference and hope you’ll consider joining us. Here’s a link to the conference website.
