Faculty lunch event 10/18/16

cal-poly-kennedy-library
Please join us Tuesday October 18th 1pm at Kennedy Library for a special lunch event with a national ministry director from the Middle East. Working alongside Cru, we have an ongoing partnership with this part of the world, and are with the national leadership there to build movements of evangelism and discipleship. This past summer two Cal Poly faculty and a student team had an effective outreach on one of the most influential universities in that region.
Come be encouraged as you hear what God is doing in this part of the world – and the incredible platform faculty can have ministering there alongside Cal Poly students.

Kennedy Library 2nd floor fishbowl 216N
Lunch will be provided
We’ll also be hosting an 8am coffee the same day and location (Tuesday October 18, Kennedy Library 2nd floor fishbowl 216N) if you can’t make the lunch.

A picture worth a thousand words

chip-appel-cru-9-27-16

Many thanks to NRMES Professor Chip Appel coming out Tuesday night September 27th to welcome students at the first Cru meeting. 1000 students packed out Chumash auditorium and were sincerely encouraged to hear a bit about Dr. Appel’s faith journey, that he was a student at Cal Poly in the early ’90’s, and that he was part of Cru back then (when there were 40 or so students involved). Cru meets Tuesday nights at Mountainbrook Church, but was on campus for a first week kick off. Several other campus ministries have also launched and are working to serve students this year.

Welcoming Every Student – Fall 2016

Welcome Week 2016 (5).jpg

Welcome Week Fall 2016: several campus ministries worked to welcome and reach out to incoming students. Booths in the photo above in Friday’s Community Fair included (from left to right) the Newman Center, GLO Church, Cru, and Epic.

InterVarsity, Chinese Christian Fellowship, AACF, Orthodox Christian Fellowship, the Veritas Forum and other groups participated Friday – or at Sunday’s Club Showcase.

2010-2016-listMany thanks to everyone who’ve included their name on the “Meet the Prof” list of Christian faculty.  That list started with 25 names six years ago. It’s since grown to 72 names. Please let us know if you’d like an updated copy of this list.

Hard copies of this list were given to every campus fellowship group to pass along to interested students. In addition, Cru included a this list of Christian faculty in their welcome bag – given out to over 2500 incoming students (and counting).

It’s incredibly significant for students to know that there are faculty in every college (and most departments) who are followers of Jesus Christ.

As you remember, please pray for the incoming students. Perhaps some of them are even your students. Pray for the choices they will be making their first few weeks on campus: socially, physically, and academically, and spiritually.

This was an opportunity for 70 or so faculty, spouses, and kids to connect together, enjoy some food and encouraging fellowship, and share our vision for the upcoming year.

4

It was great to connect and hear what God is doing in our lives and on campus. We’re planning a similar event again next year – we hope you can join us.

UCLA Professor Dr. William Klug

Bill KlugSo very sad: 39 year old UCLA Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Professor Dr. William Klug was killed today by a disgruntled student in a murder/suicide.

Professor Klug was a committed follower of Jesus Christ was involved with the UCLA Veritas Forum, serving as a moderator in 2012. In response to the very question he helped UCLA students and faculty explore — “Does God Care? — his answer was clearly yes.

Please join us in praying for his wife – who just lost her husband and their two young children – who just lost their dad.
